Who is Tend?
Tend is a Kiwi-owned healthcare company, founded in 2020 with a simple goal: to make healthcare easier to access and manage for all Kiwis. A few months ago, The Doctors became part of Tend Health.
Tend brings together in-person care with 24/7 online doctors, supported by a wider team of GPs, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals. This means patients can access the care they need in the way that works best for them, whether that’s at a clinic or online.
What makes Tend different?
Tend is designed to make healthcare easier to access and manage, whether you need care today or want to stay on top of your health over time.
Alongside your usual in-clinic care, you’ll have access to Tend’s digital health services through the app, giving you more ways to connect with your care team and manage your health in one place.
You can continue to book appointments by using The Doctors app until midday 19 November before it’s switched off. Between 23 - 27 November, you will need to call reception to book an appointment on 09 299 9666.
Instead of relying solely on your GP, you'll have access to a team of health professionals (nurses, pharmacists, allied health) who work together to support your health needs. Your GP remains central to your care, but other team members can help with specific aspects, making care more accessible and responsive.
When we move to Tend's systems in November 2026, your records will move with you. Nothing is lost and nothing changes about the care you receive.
Absolutely, patient confidentiality and security of your health records is paramount. Records transfer is a confidential secure electronic process overseen by the Ministry of Health.
We take your data security very seriously and operate in full accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code and align our security practices with the HISO 10027:2015 Health Information Security Framework.
Your information is kept on a secure Patient Management System (PMS) and is only accessible by clinical teams or clinical administration teams of the company.
The PHO contract that The Doctors was operating under allows the transfer of patients to another clinic operating under the same contract when clinics close or sell.
From November 2026, we will start transitioning to Tend systems. Changes will be introduced gradually – there will be no sudden disruption to your care.
No. You don't need to do anything just yet. We will be in touch in due course to help you get set up.

The Doctors app will switch off at midday 19 November and your details will move to the Tend platform. The Tend app or website will be your new platform to manage your health.
The clinic hours have not changed and remain the same, but there will be additional online consults available 24/7 through the Tend app or at tend.nz
