Tend and Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei (NWŌ)

Why is this partnership happening?
This partnership ensures the clinic established by NWŌ kuia and kaumātua can continue to grow and serve ngā uri o Tuperiri who reside across Aotearoa and its community. By partnering with Tend, NWŌ will be able to access additional resources, technology, and support whilst maintaining strong hapū involvement.

What is Tend Health?
Tend is one of New Zealand's largest primary healthcare providers, operating clinics across Aotearoa. They combine in-person care with 24/7 digital health services and use a care team model that brings together GPs, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals. Tend was founded to make quality healthcare more accessible, particularly for communities who face barriers to traditional healthcare.

What does Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei's involvement mean?
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei retains a 20% ownership stake in Tend Ōrākei and Lisa Davis, Chief Executive of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, will sit on the clinic's board. This ensures ongoing hapū influence and that care remains aligned to hapū values and responsive to community's needs. Additionally, NWŌ will become a shareholder in the broader Tend business alongside other iwi investors and Pencarrow.

Will the clinic still be welcoming whānau?
Absolutely. Honouring the legacy of the kuia and kaumātua who established this clinic and maintaining culturally responsive care is fundamental to this partnership. With NWŌ’s ongoing ownership and board representation, tikanga and te ao Māori perspectives remain central to how the clinic operates.
